Shri Sharada Devi Andhara Vikasa Kendra (Shri Sharada Devi Center for the Upliftment of the Blind) was founded in 1986 under the inspiration and encouragement of monks of the Sri Rama Krishna Mission. The centre aims at the upliftment of the blind by providing them with free education including food, clothing, lodging and medical assistance.

Further education after high school is encouraged to help them become independent and self sufficient. The centre also conducts vocational training programs including computers, dairy and horticultural training.

Education is not all. Our students play many sports and have competed in World Disabled Day. They actively take part in cultural activities including music, elocution and quiz. Every year they mount a colorful "Yakshagana" (folk dance drama of Karnataka) production during our Annual Day Celebration.

The Kendra is run by a board of trustees comprising mainly of philanthropists from the Shimoga Area.

Running a project of this magnitude requires support from all, considering the welfare of some of the most needy amongst us i.e. the blind and poor children.

Giving them the Gift of education is the best gift one can give to help them become self sufficient and independent. Please join us in spreading this gift to all deserving children. Please check the "How you can help" section for details.
